Rocker '92
Rocker '92
This is a really simple, intermediate framed needlepoint piece of one of those magic items from childhood, the rocking chair.
There's few pieces of furniture I seem to come across while out wandering that appear at greater volume than the classic 'rocking chair'. There was a period last summer while walking home that my regular route had three (3!) different abandoned rocking chairs along the walk, thrown into the river or dumped behind a new build construction site. I inspected two (I did not bother with the one in the river) and both were not of acceptable quality to drag home to my wife and a discussion of where the chair would fit into our apartment, but one day soon if I can find the space I will rescue and reclaim one of these abandoned chairs and give it some real good use.
I remember as a child playing on a rocking chair often, whereas the play part of the 'game' was trying not to crush someone else's feet or hands with the part of the chair that glides back and forth off the ground (the rocker?).
As an adult in a household with no children and no pets running around, I find the probability of winning that game much much higher and really, my only competition would be my own misplaced toes, dangling unaware of an upcoming crunch. It seems like a fair trade off for the comforting, newborn-esque vibes of tilting and turning your body forward and back slowly until you drift asleep.
A giant quilt or throw adorns the chair in the piece, an extra layer to the drift and a story for another day completely.
