Edges of Town
Edges of Town
This is a portrait sized pen and pastel on paper with glass frame piece that reminds me of that space that exists on the corner, the brink and the edge of every community.
As a child we would use these spaces to play and to build and enjoy the outdoors. As adults we find ourselves using them for similar reasons.
There is an 'edge of town' on the edge of our town, and they've recently developed a group of medium sized condo buildings there. One of the listed amenities is a private trail through what was once 'edge of town' common space.
In the past few years I've seen condos list a wide slew of amenities that could serve the residents of their grounds. A local controversial footwear factory conversion to micro-lofts saw the inclusion of a 'jam space' amenity, with back-line drum kit and bass amp.
This illustration vaguely reminds me of the 'edge of town' up the street, although from this view, we are overlooking a Costco but it's still roughly what is now offered as an upscale amenity in a new-build condo, and I think that is wild.
