Boy Reading GamePro Magazine
Boy Reading GamePro Magazine
Boy Reading GamePro Magazine is a handcrafted needlepoint piece with some slight scuffing on the edges of its wooden frame. An image, assumptively of a young boy singing hymns, initially made me think of how much some needlepoint pieces look similar to the pixel art of video gaming past (and present). When I was a child, GamePro magazine was the glossy publication de jour for first looks at early and upcoming releases, long long before the internet would kill off the majority of these daydream machines we all called ‘magazines’. Boy Reading GamePro Magazine is a flip on the activities of youth, whereas the needlepointer may have imagined the subject’s prepubescent voice chiming Abide with Me or Be Thou My Vision, I can’t see anything but a young person open mouthed, shocked at the announcement of the Battletoads port for the Nintendo Gameboy.
