This is a gorgeous hand carved and painted wood piece, dressed in bold autumnal hues and in great condition. There's a stamp on the back, possibly from a point of purchase and potentially while on a trip that reads "Edmund Zimmermann Wood Carvings, 7601 Bad Griesbach, Black Forest" and then a telephone number. Of course, I googled this address and it looks as though Bad Griesbach is more commonly known as Bad Peterstal-Griesbach now and that Edmund Zimmermann was a popular German folk art maker, depicting scenes from the Black Forest area of Germany. I know very little about that region in Germany, so once again, I googled, and this style of housing seems to be very popular in that region and a clear muse for the workings of Zimmermann.
