Songbirds On Blossoms is a lightweight needlepoint embroidery piece, featuring a pair of songbirds catching up with one another on a nice branch of blossoms supported by a wooden frame. An inscription on the back ‘Embroidered by XXXXXXX, 1980, Martins Gallery & Framing, Bracebridge’ adds an element of mystery with the embroiderers name deliberately crossed out, leaving a simple question of ‘why?’. Possibly this was gifted by someone who eventually fell out of fashion with the gift-receiver, to be blacked out and not spoken of. I’ve been to Bracebridge, Ontario a handful of times in my life and never have I met anyone there I would personally hold this sort of grudge against, thus my investigative work runs dry at this point. Nonetheless, Songbirds... is a beautiful piece to hang in your space from the year that brought us Pac-Man and the very first Iron Maiden album.
