Field & Farm is an acrylic painting with a wooden frame, in a very sub-compact size. It's in great condition with just a few tiny surface nicks on the frame. An inscription on the back reads Feb. 18, 1999, to Jean and Edna from Pearl with love and best wishes. A small signature reads P. Thompson. Field & Farm reminds me vividly of the landscapes I grew up around in Northern Ontario, just North enough for the designation but admittedly, 20 minutes south of the metropolitan centre that hosts the official ‘Gateway to the North’ sign. A town surrounded by vast rolling farmland and a gracious amount of Pine and Red Spruce trees, I can imagine holding Field & Farm in one hand, squinting my left eye to bring better focus to my right while comparing it to the scenery in Powassan, Ontario and telling myself “yeah, that’s just about right”.
