A classic.
I found an interesting chart showing the etymology and popularity of the term "Blessed". I could have sworn it exploded in our vernacular sometime in the mid-aughts. When I think of "blessed" being used in a phrase, It's coming from my television and it's some reality program. That's what instantly comes to mind as it's a term I don't think I've ever really used.
BUT.
While the popularity of "Blessed" has risen year over year since the late 1990's, it's nothing compared to the popularity of the word peaking in the 1840's.
What made it 400% more popular nearly 100 years ago can probably be attributed to some sort of mass printing or acception of a religious text that featured the term heavily. It drops from there, bottoming out by 1980 only to start to climb again 20 years after. I think about what kind of world event could cause the word to gain that sort of popularity again. I think about what it would take for all of us to start using the word 4 times as often as we already do. Is it something that makes us grateful for the "blessings" we have? Or could it be something that reminds us of how "blessed" we used to be.
